F.A.Q.

Here compiled some of the most common questions for you.
If you don’t want to click yourself through the net, you’ll find a printable version of our F.A.Q. here.

What services do you offer?
We can do almost everything for you. Our services range from music production, recording, mixing and mastering to complete video production and post-production, sounddesign, coaching and composing. Also we‘re doing pre-production and/or composing sessions with you or your band. For example to prepare you best for your own rehearsal space recordings. Of course, we can also compose and produce ready-to-use songs to your needs, whether it is going to be a hip hop beat or a complete song for a commercial.

Further, we‘re doing a studio live format called Ghost City Sessions. Basically, it is a live performance of you or your band, recorded in the studio while having the room modified with individual session visuals. A live video with the artistic requirement of a standard music video if you want.

We‘re always in search for interesting musicians for that project.
Hit us up!

Do you do online Mixing and Mastering?
Yes. We do. Contact us to get your personal offer.

How do you calculate your Prices? Why is there no specific pricing information?
We like to adapt our prices to you as a particular client, depending on the complexity of your project and the expected amount of work.

Basically, we charge hourly rates for production, recording, mixing and composing work. Sometimes we‘ll agree to fixed fees for your particular mix project or production if this is a suitable option. We charge per diems for accommodation and we recollect our expenses for drumheads, guitar strings, sticks – stuff you‘ll be going to use for your production.

We think that this is the best and fairest option in pricing. Please don‘t hesitate to contact us with your (detailed) project information.
We‘ll be happy to prepare and discuss your individual offer.

When and how do I pay?
We charge 50% of the project fee as a booking confirmation and advance on our work. The other 50 % must be balanced out upon the last production day.

Mixing sessions must be paid 100% before the start date.
You can pay via bank transfer, cash or paypal.

What are your business hours? How long do you work per day?
That depends mostly on the staff your working with. Some producers / engineers choose to work with the creative timing of their artists, others leave when they‘re tired and might let an assistant finish the evening‘s work.

Basically, the studio is open and alive 24 hours a day / 7 days per week. So just make sure you‘re working with the right people (i.e. people that match your personal working philosophy) and everything will be just fine.

What are your qualifications?
We  l o v e what we do. Nothing more, nothing less.

Do you have beats?
We don‘t have beats or readymade playbacks for your rap or else project in stock but we love working on such. As we come from a rather classic recording background we always try to create beats for you by inviting musicians, tracking, sampling and so on in a more „live“ and „recorded“ setup.

But we‘re open for everything anyways – just ask!

Can we see the studio before booking our dates?
Yes, of course! Please contact Anabela or Jan to make an appointment.
They‘ll be happy to show you around and answer your questions.

Okay then, how can i book a studio date at Ghost City Recordings?
For general requests and/or if you have questions left, consult Anabela to figure out the exact needs and requirements for your project. She‘s happy to help you planning and will have all the answers for you.

In case you already know what you want, please contact the individual engineer and he‘ll inform you about free dates and will take care of the studio booking.

How much time do we need to record our album?
This question largely depends on your band personal‘s skills and the type of preperation (and preperation time) you were going through before hitting the studio. Please keep in mind that you can save a serious amount of time and money by preparing yourself to the maximum.

Before booking your session, please provide us with your song demos and detailed information about your session goals/expectations so that we can determine the amount of work that will be necessary to bring the project to your full satisfaction.

What kind of gear is available at your studio?
Please go take a look at our resources page. You‘ll find downloadable .pdfs with technical specification of the studios as well as a complete microphone and instrument list and floor plans of the rooms. If you can‘t find a specific piece of desired gear, please feel free to ask us about it. We almost always find a way to borrow or rent about anything you could need.

What do I need to bring myself?
Again, this depends mostly on your type of production and the available gear in the studio. If you have only a limited amount of space in your vehicles you can always use our gear (if available and not rented for another producion – please ask).

But for your own sake – bring your own equipment in as much as you can. It is YOUR sound and most likely you will be able to achieve that sound instantly by using your own gear. Also – every piece of gear is a little different. There‘s soul to every piece of gear one uses in music.

Don‘t forget to bring your fetish guitar – even if we have the „exact same“ model here. Eventually you will be disappointet of a certain instrument you thought would sound the same. And in the end, piling up as much gear as possible leaves you with tons of possiblities and production flexibility. Bring your own gear!

What about drumheads, strings and other wear parts?
We have a permanent assortment of drum heads, guitar and bass strings, sticks and whatsoever you need in the house. However, it is always good to think of stuff like this yourself but everything needed for your production will probably be at hand by our permanent stock.

Can we record everything live?”
Yes, of course! Just make sure that you rehearse R E A L L Y well!
Only then will your live recording turn out really good.

Can we bring our own producer/engineer?
Sure, we highly recommend that you only work with staff you are familiar to or happy to work with. Your producer or engineer is very welcome at Ghost City Recordings.
In that case you‘ll have to book one full day of one of our engineers to introduce your staff to our studio. After that you will be able to work independently.

If you work with a producer it is always advisable to let him handle the studio booking as he will likely be involved deeply in the general organisation of your project. We‘ll sort everything out directly with him so nobody gets confused by cross-communication.

Can we book only the studio without control rooms and staff?
Yes, you can! Please Contact Anabela to figure out a personal agreement.

When can we arrive at the studio?
Typically a band or artist would arrive the evening before production to vibe into the house and studio just before starting to work in the next morning. Depending on how far you live away from the studio this is sometimes the only possibility and a legit thing to do.

We like to provide you with this possibility and yet, we are not going to start working before the agreed session date. Don‘t expect us to set up your session on the evening before production.

What about parking spaces?
There is enough space to park your cars, vans, bigger vans or even busses in close proximity to the studio. Be sure to tell us with how many vehicles you will arrive so we can prepare for your arrival.

Can we stay overnight?

The house offers a spacious living floor with two six-bed rooms, one single-bed room and one double-bed room. There are two bathrooms with showers, a fully equipped kitchen and multiple recreation and working/reading areas.

You can stay overnight for as long as you want. We only charge €15,- per night and person to balance our expenses so you don‘t have to buy into an expensive hotel having to commute to the studio every day and night.

Are there any supermarkets, restaurants, etc. near the studio?
Yes. You will have to drive about 3 km to reach any infrastructure of this kind but everything you need is at hand. Supermarkets, restaurants, fast food, music shops etc.

Are you accepting interns?
It‘s always a good thing to ask us about internships. We like to share experience with the coming generations. Get us on the phone and ask about internships.
Generally, yes, we accept interns!

Why the name “Ghost City Recordings” ?
We built the Ghost City Recordings Studios in the middle of nothing and in complete isolation of the outside world. This allows for super focussed creative work and contemplation with your music.
The name is an obvious result of the solitude and silence of this place.
